Goals and Objectives

GOAL I: Resident shall learn skills necessary for independent living.

Objectives:
1. Learn household management
a. learn to cook simple meals
b. learn to read and follow simple recipes
c. learn to cook for one or two persons
d. comparative grocery shopping
e. how to plan nutritious, balanced meals within a budget
f. cleaning and maintenance of a house
g. simple home repairs

2. Form good grooming habits
a. learn good personal hygiene
b. learn to choose appropriate, attractive wearing apparel
c. use of cosmetics
d. attractive appearance

3. Learn basic principles of good nutrition and proper physical health
a. learn how to maintain a balanced and healthful diet
b. learn to recognize need for proper exercise
c. learn weight control
d. learn to schedule regular medical and dental exams

4. Learn care of clothing
a. mending, washing, cleaning, ironing, folding of clothing
b. recognition of when clothes need replacing

5. Learn handling of personal finances
a. learn coin recognition
b. learn to count and make change
c. learn sensible spending and maintenance of budget
d. learn how to maintain a checking or savings account
e. simple record keeping of income and expenditures

6. Learn to use public transportation
a. how to read or call for bus schedules and plan a bus route
b. time management
c. learn appropriate behavior on public transportation

7. Learn safety and emergency measures
a. increase awareness of emergency phone numbers - procedures in case of fire or medical emergencies
b. use of public telephone for emergencies

GOAL II: Resident shall acquire skills and attitudes necessary for good social adjustment.

Objectives:
1. Establish good interpersonal relationships with peers and others
2. Learn appropriate behavior in social situations
3. Develop a more positive attitude of self
4. Learn skills necessary for better self expression and communication with others

GOAL III: Resident shall develop independent decision making ability.

Objectives:
1. Learn how to get information needed to make good decisions
2. Learn to decipher what information is most relevant to decision
3. Learn decision making process and possible consequences
4. Make own decision whenever possible
5. Seek advice when necessary
6. Learn to be more personally responsible for consequence of final decisions

GOAL IV: Resident shall learn good use of recreational and leisure time.

Objectives:
1. Use community resources where available
2. Participate in regular scheduled group activities
3. Develop individual hobbies and interests

GOAL V: Resident shall develop sense of community involvement.

Objectives:
1. Participate in volunteer work
2. Develop a sense of community identity
3. Learn civic responsibility (i.e., voting)

GOAL VI: Consumer shall be afforded vocational Guidance to assist him/her in obtaining and holding a job.

Objectives:
1. Exhibit good work habits
a. maintain good attendance and punctuality
b. do an acceptable job of assigned household tasks
c. maintain good relations with peers and supervisors

2. Develop individual marketable skills
a. perform responsible tasks at the house
b. variety of appropriate tasks, other than common household tasks, will be made available to the consumer in the home and the community

3. Develop good judgement regarding employment possibilities as related to his/her ability
a. have reasonable opportunities to choose alternative tasks in the home
b. perform some tasks that are not of his/her own choosing
c. discuss own performance with houseparent and reasons for choosing optional tasks

4. Avail himself/herself of community resources
a. pool of information regarding community job-finding and related services will be available
b. means of making contact with those agencies are available
